HHS Pandemics vs. Commerce Carlito's Way

Pandemics-

Last night the Pandemics squared off against the surging Department of Commerce. Commerce jumped out to an early 12-2 lead after 2 innings, capitalizing on our defensive jitters. Despite being in a deep hole, the mighty Pandemics fought back bringing the score to 9-12 at the end of the 4th inning. Our entire team was hitting the ball very effectively, and tightened up our loose ends on defense. Coming off a nasty Achilles heel injury received in bed, Anand Parekh made his first appearance at pitcher and played an incredible defensive game. Following the 4th Inning, Commerce managed to score several more runs putting the score 19-12 going into the final inning. We managed to knock in a few runs but ended up short, falling to Commerce by the final score: 19-14.

We should hold our heads high by the way we fought our way back into this game against a very good team. We learned how key defense is in this league. If we were able to minimize some of the early defensive errors and overthrows the game would have had a different outcome. Getting into a 12-2 hole after 2 innings is a hard deficit to recover from. Commerce was a great team, and we will get another chance to play them in the playoffs, and we will be ready.

Thanks to everyone for coming out!

HHS Pandemics vs. ONDCP Drug Lords

It was another victorious night for the Pandemics! The ONDCP Drug Lords were intimidated by the mighty Pandemics and only showed with a few of their players. However, the Pandemics came with a roster large enough to almost field two teams so we organized a scrimmage and had a great game.

I was impressed by the power of the Pandemics’ bats last night. Home Runs were hit by Bill Fleischer, Drew Smith, Ray Sass, Caleb Crosby, and Michael Banyas (I probably missed some), and most of these players hit more than one. Kaleena White was also impressive at the bat and in the field. Kaleena batted 5 times, getting on base on 4 of those occasions. She also made an incredible play at first base. A grounder was hit by the coach of ONDCP, picked up and thrown to Kaleena at first base. The ball got to Kaleena the same time the runner was approaching the base. Kaleena stuck her glove out, caught the ball, and was then hit (accidentally) by the runner and she managed to hold on to the ball! It was a great play. We got revenge on the offending coach when he was run over at home plate by one of our players after hitting a home run. I think it was Holly Kilness or Sery Kim that ran him over. Lesson learned: Don’t mess with the Pandemics.

We also played some great Defense. Bill Fleischer was outstanding in left field running down balls like a golden retriever. (except that he would catch them) Drew Smith even had a lucky running catch in center after someone cranked a deep ball that should have gone over his head. I’m still mad about that one Drew.

It was a great night and lots of fun. I have attached a few pictures from our first two games.

NEXT GAME: Commerce Carlito's Way vs. The Pandemics next Wednesday @ Haines Point.
Thank you to all who came out, we had tons of fun and our team looks really strong!

Let’s keep up the energy!

HHS Pandemics vs. EPA Gang Green

The mean HHS Pandemics Squad

The Pandemics hit the ground running Friday night defeating the Mean Gang-Green from the EPA. We jumped out to an early 5-0 lead with some powerful hitting and quick base running. However, Gang Green turned their bats on in the 3rd and came creeping back with 4 runs. HHS shook off the mid-game jitters after Ray Sass cranked a ball deep into right field that started another 5 point rally for the Pandemics. Final score: HHS Pandemics 10 EPA Gang-Green 4
Our Infield, including: Kent Forde, Joanne Chiedi, Ben Sasse, Kaleena White, Chris Hickey, John Poelman, and Tom Hase were like a row of 6th graders playing Red Rover with kindergartners, not allowing anything to get through. Specifically, Kent Forde looked like the ever acrobatic Derek Jeter playing short stop with some of the plays he made in the field. The pink gloved, Mary Kosinski, caught a crucial fly ball that put an end to Gang Green’s only rally. On offense our bats were hot. Bill Steiger and Michael Banyas both pounded homeruns, and Ray Sass would have if Angela Hope, who had just gotten on base with a terrific hit herself, hadn’t stopped to flirt with the short stop. Ray couldn’t score until she passed home plate! I believe Angela did get the short stops number.

A great game was played by all! I appreciate everyone coming out and playing, and having patience with the coach during the first game.

For future games, I will be doing a roll call before the game so we can get a strategic lineup for everyone who wants to play. Thanks again to everyone who showed up! It was a great game! Congratulations Pandemics!

Next up: Batting cages this Thursday evening. More to come!
