Big Head and Little Arms...

For those of you who have been following the ongoing debate about a fight between a T-Rex and a lion, I submit the following video. All of you who doubted the Lion, think again.

For those of you who doubted lions, you must have watched the following video. Dont be deceived, it isn't a real lion. This clip is from Monty Python.

HHS Pandemics vs. DOJ / DOE

Pandemics getting ready for the big game.
Pandemics -

Last night, the Pandemics returned to the location where the season began to face the combined team of the Department of Justice Defenders and the Department of Education No Softballers Left Behind. It was a perfect July evening for an intense softball game that featured a cartwheel into second base by Kent Forde, a dog getting hit in the backside by a line drive, a player wearing a full baseball uniform including cleats, stirrups, belt, pants, jersey, sweat band, gloves and a hat, the scary combination of Brynnan Wammack with a camera and Preeya Noronha with a bat, and the return of Coach Nelson to the lineup

Assured of a victory due to forfeit, Pandemics Becky Wammack and Patrick Jacxsens joined our opponents giving them enough players to field a team. The Pandemics picked up where they left off last week with huge bats and great defense. Bill “Flash” Fleischer returned to the mound and pitched and fielded a great game. Drew Smith clobbered two 3 run homers and Ray Sass contributed with one as well. Our team seemed to have an affinity with the grass last night as players slid at every opportunity. As Drew Smith was approaching home plate for his second homer, he noticed the ball was also en route to home plate and would meet him at the plate. Drew went into slide position and narrowly missed the tag by the catcher, and in the process tore all the skin off of his right leg. You may want to avoid close contact with Smith in the coming days as the doctors advised him to avoid the shower. Rebecca Ayer and Bill Steiger also demonstrated flawless slides. Anand Parekh, returning to the lineup following his lingering injury sustained in bed, was an iron curtain at first base. We are sending Kent Forde back to training camp after the following: MINE….IT’S MINE….MINE ….DROP. (Forde, I had to mention it). It should also be mentioned that Patrick and Becky, playing for the opponents, contributed greatly to their success with their strong batting and fielding. Patrick’s job is on the line after hitting a home run over his boss Keith Nahigian. However, Nahigian got revenge with his strong at bats, and by catching a line drive that would have knocked over Barry Bonds. In the end, the Pandemics’ quick-start was too much for them to overcome and the Pandemics ended up on top 18-15.

Following the game, the Pandemics headed to the Ugly Mug on Capitol Hill to celebrate their victory. A heated discussion broke out featuring the age-old question of who would win in a fight: T-Rex or the King of the Jungle, a lion.

Here is a video of one of Drew Smith's at bats: If you watch closely you see Preeya running past the camera to home plate:

Congratulations Pandemics on the victory last night! There is no game scheduled for next week, but I am trying to schedule one. I’ll keep y’all posted.

Pandemics vs. Hard Labor

The mighty Pandemics, still jubilant from their last victory, gathered on Wednesday evening searching for W to celebrate the return of Coach Nelson. The team welcomed to its ranks, Becky Wammack, sister of Brynnan. Becky immediately stepped up to the plate substituting for beloved Pandemics pitcher, Flash. She held her own and earned a wholehearted invitation to return from the entire team. Unfortunately, too much time had passed since the Pandemics last took the field and a victory eluded us (although just by a grand slam.) Heading into the sixth inning, it appeared hopeless for the Pandemics down 9-3. Strong hitting and impressive fielding allowed the Pandemics to rally to 9-7 heading into the 7th inning losing eventually by a score of 12-9.

The Pandemics had difficulty getting anything past the defense of Hard Labor during the first few innings, but like a pandemic that begins silently and explodes with great force, so were the Pandemics. Kent Forde bombed a ball deep for the team’s only home run. Ray Sass and Joe McGowan each recorded RBI’s while pounding triples. Drew Smith, temporarily paroled from the Justice Department, contributed two doubles. Keith Nahigian got tons of action in the outfield shagging, not in the British sense, numerous fly balls. After sleepwalking through the first few innings, the Pandemics put in a solid performance – unfortunately, just a little too late.

Next week we play a combined team from Justice and Education on Wednesday at 6:30pm. We will be looking to carry our late inning momentum into our game next week.

HHS Pandemics vs. DHS Rough Riders

HHS Squad after dominating the DHS Rough Riders. The two coaches Brynnan and Rebecca pose up front in their moment of glory after their win.

Did Coach Nelson's email last Friday help the team cope with its grief from the string of recent losses? Missing their wounded but fearless leader, the Pandemics took the field last night hoping that his attempt at group therapy worked. In honor of Coach Nelson, here is this week's recap.

Top 10 Things Coach Nelson Missed while on Vacation

10 - 16 runs (isn't that double what was scored last week?)

9 - On deck: John Poelman. John? John? Oh forget it. Brynn, you're up.

8 - Those hot pink socks! Seriously. Do you think he wears them under his suit?

7 - Fewer errors!! Strong fielding this week. Keep this up and you'll save a clipboard's life.

6 - Pitcher Elizabeth Dixon fielding a ball with her bare hand. (Needless to say, she didn't pitch for the rest of the game.)

5 - Sass scores, Rebecca swoons. (Translation: while running over to congratulate Ray on scoring a run, I was viciously tripped by a water bottle and fell on my butt. Sweet.)

4 - Calls for a coaching change. (I think we have a couple of day before Dick and Prudence notice the new addition www.hhs.gov/cancoachnelson)

3 - Joe McGowan to Ray Sass: "Chicks rule. Don't fight it."

2 - Knowing the other team means it when they say "good game."

1 - The thrill of a 16-9 victory over DHS.

The key to last night’s victory was lots of good hits off the pitcher. I don’t think there was a link section in the batting line-up. Excellent effort by the entire team last night. Drew Smith, if you played a better game this season I wasn’t there for it. Great job Pandemics. It appears that our next game isn’t until July 13.
