Pandemics vs. State / ONDCP

Last night the Mighty Pandemics gave a whooping to the Diplomats and Drug Lords of the State Department and ONDCP.

The game was never close, final score: Pandemics: 18, State/ONDCP: 1

Though the Pandemic’s bats were on fire, it was the tremendous Defense led by Jason “trash talking” Bennett that lifted the Pandemics to victory. Before the start of the game, I was conversing with Drew “Muscle Man” Smith about the physique of the opposing squad. They had a guy on their team that looked like Drew on steroids…I mean this guy was huge. Dressed in knee-high football socks, NY Yankees hat, and jersey, we could tell he was a legitimate threat. His first at bat, we sent the outfield deep to prevent the guy from knocking it over the heads of our outfielders. He stepped up and crushed a ball into deep right field, where Bennett was calmly waiting. Bennett turned, and ran to position himself under the screaming ball…and in a Ken Griffy Jr. type effort, elevated his glove to snag the ball that was destined for a home run! It was spectacular! All jaws dropped as Bennett returned the ball to the infield and gave a “what are y’all surprised about? I do this in my sleep” type shrug. The following inning, the same thing happened…Bennett robbed their Barry Bonds of his second potential home run…and in no less of a spectacular way. You would think that this alone would qualify Bennett for the game MVP, it did, but Bennett wasn’t done. Each time this guy got up, which totaled 4 times, he slammed the ball to his developing nemesis, Jason Bennett; and each time Bennett sent him back to the bench stunned. Following his 3 at bat, Bennett snagged the ball and yelled “come on buddy…keep hitting it out here” to which the big guy said “I can’t believe that guy is talking trash to me!” Following his final out, in complete shock, the big guy said “That guy completely owns me!” And he did! Bennett deserves all the pats on the back for his heroic defense last night!

Other highlights included a triple ASPE home run combination by Ben S”ASPE” (Sasse), Ray Sass, and Coach Nelson. It must be the ASPE water.

Joanne Chiedi returned to the lineup in glory and played spectacular defense at 2nd base.

The game was called early in the top of the 6th inning because of the lead that we had built. It was a great game and congrats to out to everyone who played.

We have a quick turn around before our next game. We play DOD this coming MONDAY. We will be playing on the field we used a bunch last season that is on the backside of the Jefferson Monument. You can park at the visitor’s parking lot or the beginning of Haines Pointe and walk over. Bring your gear on Monday to play! We need to keep the momentum going! Please let me know if you plan on PLAYING in the game on Monday.

Remember the blog is up and operational; get on to check it out. We will be posting pictures from the recent game there. You can also find links to the league rankings, scoreboard, and other fun stuff.

Congratulations again to the Pandemics! 2-0 feels good!
